Notts face final-day survival

Nottinghamshire face a final-day battle to avoid defeat after being forced to follow on in their LV County Championship clash with Surrey.

The visitors were finally bowled out for 403 on the third morning at Trent Bridge, Saqlain Mushtaq finishing unbeaten on 50 after Chris Jordan failed to add to his overnight 57.

Saqlain and Matt Nicholson then took three wickets apiece as Notts were bowled out for just 218. They closed on 46 for two in their second innings.

Lancashire were also in a position to push for victory after a fine day in the field against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

Hampshire had taken control as captain Dimitri Mascarenhas (six for 67) helped finish off Lancashire's first innings for 295, 32 behind.

But the visitors responded emphatically to bowl Hampshire out for 130 and leave them chasing 163 to win. They were 34 without loss at the close.

Yasir Arafat shone with bat and ball as Kent staged a fine fightback against Yorkshire at Canterbury to leave them needing 140 to win tomorrow.

After Rob Key was dismissed for 157, Arafat cracked 13 fours in an unbeaten 90 as Kent's final three wickets added 162 to secure a first-innings lead of 57.

Yorkshire then disappointed in their second innings, slipping from 173 for four to 196 all out with Arafat taking four for 38.

Somerset claimed a first-innings lead of 91 in their rain-hit over Durham at the Riverside. The visitors declared on 352 for eight before bowling out Durham for 261. They were 16 without lost in their second innings.
