Pak can't have two captains: Wasim

Wasim Akram says unlike India, Pakistan cannot afford to have a separate captain for Tests and one-day internationals.

Reacting to media reports that have quoted his former teammate and spinner Mushtaq Ahmed backing Shahid Afridi for the top job, Akram said it was a "ridiculous suggestion".

"Just on the basis of a couple of performances, that too in T20, can one become a Pakistan captain? Afridi can at best be a T20 or ODI captain. He doesn't have the consistency to lead in Tests. And more importantly, Pakistan can't afford to have two captains like India," said the former skipper.

The pace legend said current captain Shoaib Malik "will always be under pressure" and with the changing times in Pakistan cricket, all he could do was to perform.

"It's changing times in Pakistan cricket. With the sports ministry playing an active role in PCB affairs, anything can happen. Malik will have no control over external factors. His only job will be to perform on the field," Akram noted.
