Shoaib Malik has been put under scanner to prove his worth as the skipper before India arrived for its tour of Pakistan.

PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt said Malik's captaincy would be up for review after the all-rounder's term expired at the year end.

"Anyone in the Pakistan team holding any position has to be deserving of his place in the team," Butt said adding that it was premature to say if Malik would retain his captaincy or the governing body of the board might decide to go for a change.

"All I can say the captaincy would be up for review after December 31 and before the Indian tour of Pakistan from early January," Butt said.

The latest statement from the PCB Chief means that Malik is not guaranteed the captaincy for the India series and more importantly Malik would be under pressure to produce good results in the one-day series against the West Indies in Abu Dhabi from November 12th.

Malik's captaincy has come under lot of criticism from some former players more recently by his former skippers, Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq who felt the Board would be better off appointing a more senior player as the captain to get consistent results from the team.

Butt has already made it clear that the Australian coach of the national team, Geoff Lawson would not be retained once his contract expires in mid of next year.
