Lawson pay dispute settled
Pakistan's sacked coach Geoff Lawson sorted out his pay dispute with the PCB, paving the way for him to return to Australia.
Lawson met with the Pakistan Cricket Board's Director General Saleem Altaf at the Gaddafi stadium to sort out his pay dispute which had forced him to approach the Australian high commission for legal advice.
"Everything has been sorted out amicably and now I am ready to take the first flight home," Lawson told reporters in Lahore after meeting with Altaf.
Lawson, a former Test pacer, is not too happy with PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt's attitude . Butt met him only once and then sacked him the same day with nearly nine months of his two-year contract still remaining.
Lawson had returned the first clearance cheque saying the board had paid him short. But Altaf said the matter was settled and it was a misunderstanding played up by the media.
"Everything is okay now and he is going back satisfied." Lawson said he had enjoyed every moment of his association with the Pakistan team and would not hesitate to return to Pakistan if required.
"It has been a very enjoyable experience for me and I have learnt a lot being an international coach. If the board wants to have a local coach good luck to them. I have no grievances with them," he said.
Altaf said Australian trainer David Dwyer, who had come with Lawson, has agreed to remain with the team for the one-day series against the West Indies next month.
PCB has appointed former Test captain Intikhab Alam as the new coach. He will be coaching the team in Abu Dhabi and his appointment for a two-year period has to be ratified by the governing body of the board.
