Asif hearing on June 22

Dubai's attorney general will hear the case of Pakistan speedster Mohammad Asif on June 22, the PCB has confirmed.

The 25-year-old has been in detention since June 1 on suspicion of carrying drugs after a small quantity of a powder was found on his possession by authorities at the Dubai International Airport.

He appeared before a public prosecutor on June 5 where his statement was recorded. The prosecutor then conducted interviews with witnesses three days later before sending a report to the attorney general, who decided to look into things further.

"Our lawyers have confirmed that Asif's case will start on June 22," said the PCB's chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi.

"No charges have yet been lodged against him."

If convicted Asif could face a jail term of up to to four years and could also face action from the PCB.

However, PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf said the board would wait until the case is completed.

"We are not aware of all the facts. Once we get all the facts we will conduct our own inquiry and take appropriate action," he said.
