Mumbai book semis place
Mumbai booked a semis place in the Ranji Trophy by registering a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Himachal Pradesh.
Riding on India-discard paceman Ajit Agarkar's five-wicket haul, Mumbai sailed into Ranji Trophy's semi-final, defeating Himachal Pradesh by nine wickets at the Sardar Patel Stadium here today.
Resuming at overnight 200 (rpt 200) for 5, Himachal Pradesh could add only 87 runs to their total before being bundled out, giving Mumbai an easy target of 43 runs.
Mumbai achieved the target with nine wickets in hand, with opener Ajinkya Rahane (17) being the only casualty.
Himachal Pradesh middle-order failed to negotiate the questions from Agarkar, who played a major role in Mumbai's victory.
Sarandeep Singh, who was the highest scorer for Himachal in the first innings, was the first to go on 18 off 19 balls as Rohit Sharma pouched him on Agarkar's delivery.
The Mumbai pacer struck again in the same over by dismissing Vishal Bhatia for a duck, with the scoreboard showing 219 for 7 after just five overs into the fourth and final day.
Paras Dogra, who remained unbeaten on 82 yesterday, could add only eight runs before going down to Agarkar.
Dogra adorned his resilient innings with 14 boundaries and two sixers.
