Ranji Trophy - Brief Previews

Ranji Trophy - Brief Previews

Here are brief previews of the various Ranji Trophy matches to be played across the country.

Delhi eye season's first victory against Saurashtra

Shrugging off the disappointment of a comprehensive defeat against Uttar Pradesh, Delhi would eye first win of the season when they take on Saurashtra in a Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match.

After losing their last match by an innings and 22 runs, Delhi is now languishing at the sixth position in the tally with just four points in their kitty.

On the other hand, after drawing with Uttar Pradesh, Bengal and Maharashtra, Saurashtra have seven points to their credit and figuring fourth in the table.

Lack of consistency is the main problem for the hosts, who have to field a depleted squad in their next match due to unavailability of the regular skipper Aakash Chopra who is getting married.

Batsman Virat Kohli, who cracked gutsy 145 against Uttar Pradesh and now leads the side against Saurashtra, would be the mainstay of Delhi batting line-up.

But Kohli must be a worried leader, specially after watching the Delhi middle-order crumbling down against Uttar Pradesh bowling attack in Lucknow and would now expect some better performance.

With Chopra not playing in the match, his opening partner Gaurav Chabra have to take up the responsibility to give the hosts a good start.

Delhi's new-ball pair of Sumit Narwal and Pradeep Sangwan would also be keen to capitalise on the home advantage, while paceman Parvinder Awana will be there to back them up.

On the other hand, Jaydev Shah-led side has put up a good spirited performance to hold Bengal in their own backyard and they would certainly draw inspiration from the result.

Both the openers Sagar Jogiyani and Chirag Pathak are in good touch and have made centuries against Bengal, but the middle-order, consisting Cheteshwar Pujara, also have to keep up the consistency they showed in Kolkata match.

But Saurashtra bowling attack, led by Ravindra Jadeja, lack the sting and the captain might have to depend on the part-time bowlers like Shitanshu Kotak and Jogiyani for timely breakthroughs.

Turning track for Rajasthan-Vidarbha Ranji match

It will be a do or die for Rajasthan and visitors Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group 'A' match which begins on Wednesday on a turning track at the K L Saini stadium in Mansarovar, Jaipur.

Both the teams are placed in a situation from where an outright win could propel them to qualify for the next stage from the group.

Rajasthan are third in a seven-team with six points while Vidarbha are fourth with five points from as many matches.

Tripura, with nine points, are at the top while Goa are second with seven points.

Rajasthan had played a gamble to prepare a turning track which has a few cracks which might open up as the match progresses.
