Gayle, Afridi set for intense match

Perth fans can for sure expect some fireworks when the Western Warriors take on Southern Redbacks in the KFC T20 Big Bash.

The star quotient in the second encounter will be at an all time high with explosive overseas players - Kieron Pollard, Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle fighting it out for their teams at the Western Australia Cricket Association ground (WACA) on Tuesday.

The Southern Redbacks' fans will be treated to the hard hitting batting of Shahid Afridi and Kieron Pollard. With the signings, the Redbacks have added depth to their already dangerous batting line-up.

In Afridi, who was not included in the Pakistan Test squad, and Pollard, the Redbacks have two Twenty20 specialists.

On their day, both the batsmen are capable of anything. The world saw a glimpse of the talent Pollard has when playing for Trinidad and Tobago. He brutalised New South Wales Blues in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 in October.

National talents - Shaun Tait, Mark Cosgrove and Daniel Harris will also be expected to leave their mark in the domestic league.

The encounter will not be a piece of cake for the Redbacks. They will face stiff competition from Western Warriors who have acquired services of Chris Gayle. Gayle, Shaun Marsh and Luke Pomersbach will be the key players for the Warriors.

Gayle tasted success at the WACA when he hit the fifth-fastest Test century off 70 balls in the third Test against Australia. Gayle became the second player after Mark Waugh to hit over the Lillee-Marsh stand at the WACA.

With coach Tom Moody's warning not to solely rely on Gayle, the Warriors will be hoping for match-winning performances from Luke Ronchi, captain Adam Voges and Ashley Noffke.

Both teams will look to improve their last season's outing where they managed only two wins from five matches. It will be important for the teams to get off to a good start in the tournament.

So let the game begin!
