SACA welcome power loss

The SACA has welcomed the abolishment of the President of Cricket South Africa's veto power.

The removal of the power was one of 12 recommendations made on Wednesday by the transformation committee of CSA and has been welcomed by the SACA.

"This is something for which we have been campaigning for over a year," said SACA chief executive Tony Irish told www.news24.com.

"This is what the players want. The most important thing for the players is to know that they have been included in the team on merit, and not because of the colour of their skin. They all accept the principle of transformation, but they want to know that they have earned the right to be in the team."

The transformation review committee was appointed earlier this year after a public row between Norman Arendse and CSA chief executive Gerald Majola.

On three occasions Arendse vetoed the team selected for the tour of Bangladesh as there were not enough black players chosen to meet CSA's targets.

Majola finally overruled him and let the team travel as chosen.

There was a second row after Andre Nel was left out of the team to tour India, and replaced by a black player in Charl Langeveldt. Langeveldt quit SA shortly afterwards, refusing to be chosen solely for the colour of his skin.
