New contract clause for Lankans

Sri Lanka Cricket contracted players will have to play a minimum of 75 per cent of domestic games, according to a new clause.

The move is the latest in an effort to improve the standard of domestic cricket in the island nation after a five-team Inter-Provincial tournament was established last year.

President of the Cricketers' Association and former Test opener, Sidath Wettimuny, said he expected the international players would be able to juggle their commitments with the national side.

"I don't think that will be an issue for the players as I am sure they can manage it," he said.

Sri Lanka chairman of selectors, Ashantha De Mel, added: "It was not our (selectors) suggestion or thinking to include the minimum cricket requirement clause. However we all agree that players should play domestic cricket which helps in the selection."
