24.04.2009

Ravi Bopara, with his sizzling innings against Bangalore Royal Challengers on Friday, ensured the first ever win for Kings XI Punjab in the second edition of the IPL.

Before his dismissal on 85 off 59 balls, his highest ever score in Twenty20, he had been involved in three invaluable stands - 52 with Karan Goel for the first wicket, 40 with Kumar Sangakkara for the second and 66 with Yuvraj Singh for the third.

Highlights

- Bopara (85) registered his highest IPL score - his maiden fifty in IPL, eclipsing the 22 against Delhi at Cape Town on April 19, 2009.

- Thanks to his match-winning knock, Bopara justifiably got his first MOM award.

- With Karan Goel, Bopara put on 52 for the first wicket - Kings XI Punjab's best against Bangalore, surpassing the 42 between Shaun Marsh and James Hopes at Mohali on May 12, 2008.

- With Yuvraj, Bopara added 66 runs for the third wicket, equalling Kings XI's previous best for this wicket-position.  Shaun Marsh and Ramnaresh Sarwan had put on 66 against Chennai at Chennai on May 10, 2008.
