After Tilakaratne Dilshan gave Sri Lanka a firm footing with his 53-run knock, skipper Sangakkara put the lid on the match with still a over to go.
The left-hander dasher's knock, which cruised his side to the victory, also meant that West Indies and Sri Lanka's match becomes inconsequential.
