Lanka call for earlier start to matches

Kumar Sangakkara believes an early start to tri-series matches would help beat the dew factor and reduce the number of one-sided contests.

Sri Lanka began the tournament, which also involves India, with a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh, easily overhauling the home side's score of 260 for seven.

Tillakaratne Dilshan led the chase with a knock of 104, his sixth ODI century, but a steady fall of dew hampered Bangladesh in the field making for a one-sided match.

Sangakkara sympathised with the home team.

"I've seen dew, but I've never seen dew like this," Sangakkara said.

"I wouldn't want to field in these conditions and my bowlers wouldn't want to bowl in conditions like this.

"The difference is really day and night and it is not the greatest conditions for Bangladesh to really compete in.

"I think an 11am start or just after would be ideal, but that's something everyone has to agree to."

Sri Lanka are without several of their frontline players due to injury, but Sangakkara was pleased with his team's effort.

"I thought 260 was a bit too much. We missed a couple of run out chances and there were several opportunities to really turn the screw in the field," he said.

"There were more than a couple of bad overs which helped them get away from the position they were in.

"But this is a young side. They started really well, showed a lot of enthusiasm and finished well."

Sangakkara indicated that Dilshan, who injured his hamstring while batting, could miss tomorrow's match against India.

"It didn't look too good out there and we are just keeping out fingers crossed," Sangakkara said.

"We are hoping he would be fit enough to play at some point in this tournament.

"It was a magnificent start to the new year for him, he was just carrying on from where he left off.

"We have had a lot of injuries and its something we've really got to keep an eye on, because anything more than this and we won't be able to field a team."

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan blamed the loss on the dew.

"We batted really well and we expected there would be dew in the last hour or so," he said.

"But it came on even before the start of the second innings and that ruined things for us.

"We have only two fast bowlers in the team and the rest are spinners, so the composition didn't help at all in these conditions.

"The toss does become important, but it's not something we can control."
