Akram: India miles ahead of Pak

Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram believes Team India are simply miles ahead of their Pakistani counterparts.

Speaking to Mobile ESPN after India trounced Pakistan by 140 runs on Tuesday, the cricketer turned commenatator said: "India are a very bright side and I have always maintainned they are the favourites to win the tournament."

"They won the toss, batted first and put up 50 runs in the first five overs. From there on, there was going to be only obe winner."

Akram tore into Pakistani skipper Shoiab Malik saying he was playing as an all rounder and yet chose not to bowl. "What is the use of playing as an all rounder when you don't play your part completely? He said he did not bowl because of injury but we are not fools. He was scared of bowling, that's it."

"He did score a fifty but what good is it if the team does not win? A knock like that becomes significant only when the team wins, otherwise it is useless.

The former Sultan of Swing was effusive in his praise for the Indian cricket team, saying they are a terrific side: "India has a good fielding unit, they have a dynamic captain and it showed today."

"India played really well and they deserved to win."

The highest wicketaker in ODI's lambasted the Pakistani side for their dismal showing. "Pakistan's record of 12 consecutive wins hardly matters. I know, everybody knows who the matches were won against. First, they beat Bangladesh, then they beat Zimbabwe and then again they beat Bangladesh."

"When they beat good sides, only then would we get to know that Pakistan have a genuinely good captain."

Akram was frustrated with how miserably Pakistan failed to utilise the conditions. "The ball was swinging alright. Umar Gul bowled well but Sohail Tanveer kept banging in without a plan."

"Pakistan were struggling throughout the match. In the end India were the better side. Pakistan have to pull up and learn from their mistakes if they are to challenge India in the future."
