Ashraf defends strong letter

PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf has defended his strongly-worded letter to the team saying he was just doing his job.

Ashraf's letter, whihch was leaked to the Pakistan press, was sent to team manager Talat Ali after Pakistan's "embarrassing" 140-run loss against arch-rivals India.

Apart from asking for an explanation for the poor performance of the team, Ashraf was particularly critical of skipper Shoaib Malik and of the "unsporting behaviour" of wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal who claimed a catch even though he had not taken it cleanly.

Ashraf insisted that his email was not meant to demoralise the team. "As the board chairman, it is my job to point out some glaring mistakes that were obvious in the match and the mail was meant to lift up the spirits of the players."

Ashraf said team manager Talat Ali had responded and assured him that the team management was taking corrective measures to ensure the team play well in the final against India on Saturday.
