Bravo hails Windies

West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo hailed his team after they beat Australia by seven wickets in a rain-hit T20 on Friday.

Xavier Marshall's explosive innings of 36 off 15 balls - including three sixes - at the start of the Windies' innings ensured the hosts wrapped up victory in just 9.1 overs.

Australia had earlier reached 97 for three from 11 overs but 22-year-old Marshall, ably assisted by Bravo, who chipped in with an equally swashbuckling 28, made light work of the target.

"It's nice to come out on top," said Bravo. "I must give credit to everyone - the guys played tremendous from the start.

"We knew we'd be on and off the field and it was nice to know we gained our focus quickly, came out, bowled first and restricted them to a total that we knew our batsmen could get.

"Marshall and William Perkins got off to a very good start and the support from on and off the field was tremendous."

West Indies were without regular captain Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, making their victory all the more impressive, but the trio will be back for the start of the one-day series, which Bravo is relishing.

"It's going to be exciting," he added. "Do not forget that we are playing against the number one team in the world, but from the next game we're going to be at full strength."

Australia captain Ricky Ponting was not too disheartened by the defeat but hopes to make amends in the first ODI on Tuesday.

"The guys at the top of the order looked good," he said. "(Luke) Ronchi and (Shaun) Marsh got us off to a good start, so no complaints there. They're two very talented young guys.

"Hopefully we get the one-day series off to a better start."
