Safee commits to Pelita Jaya

Safee commits to Pelita Jaya

On the anniversary of his arrival at Pelita Jaya FC, Malaysian ace Safee Sali has opted to commit to the Indonesian club, signing a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.

The deal which the 28-year-old Perak native signed, is reported to be worth more the RM2million, and includes an extensive bonus package, a house and a car with a personal driver. Safee's taxes will also be paid by the club, as well as any travel expenses to Malaysia.

The Malaysia international will also receive an additional 'image rights' package managed by the club for all commercial endorsements.

The deal could also see Safee playing for any subsidiary club owned by Pelita Jaya Cronus, "depending on the various rules of the different leages".

These other clubs include Australia's Brisbane Roar, who will be playing in the 2012 AFC Champion's League, CS Vise, who play in the Belgian second division, and SAD Uruguay.

Safee's decision came after he turned down a chance to play for Harimau Muda in Singapore's S.League, and follows his trials with European clubs Cardiff City, Galatasary and PSG.

One key reason behind Safee's decision was his desire to expose himself to Asia's tougher leagues for at least five years, something he wants to do for "the sake of Malaysian football", as he attempts to pave the way for more Malaysian players to ply their trade overseas.

Another factor in Safee's decision appears to be the arrival at Pelita Jaya of the Indonesian national team coach Rachmad Darmawan, who led two different clubs to four Indonesian League titles.

Rachmad will head a stellar team including Nigerian striker Greg Nwokolo, Alex Bajevski from Montenegro, who has previously played in the UEFA Champions League, and Indonesia Under-23 captain Egi Mergiansyah.

"Safee wishes to give his utmost thanks to the Malaysian media and the FAM who have been invested in the developments between PSSI and the Indonesian Super League and continued to aide us through that tumultuous period." said Safee's manager, Zakaria Rahim.

"He also hopes that everybody will pray for the best in his endeavours with Pelita Jaya FC and will return to Harimau Malaysia when needed."
