Borussia Monchengladbach defender Patrick Paauwe is interested in a move to Eredivisie newcomers VVV-Venlo.

The 33-year-old has spent the last two seasons with Monchengladbach in Germany but struggled to hold down a first-team place last term and is hoping to be granted a free transfer.

Paauwe told Voetbal International: "I'm busy negotiating with Borussia Monchengladbach to sever my contract. I expect that will be resolved quickly.

"After that I hope to be able to play a few more seasons, because I'm fit and I feel fine. I live in Eindhoven so I'd like to find a club close by.

"My agent contacted a few clubs in the region, one of which was VVV-Venlo. We'll have to wait and see what comes from that. I'm open to it in any case.

"VVV is a very interesting club."
