Leverkusen register friendly win
Bayer Leverkusen stepped up their Bundesliga preparations by beating top-flight newcomers Freiburg 2-1 in Friday's friendly.
Goals from Toni Kroos and Theofanis Gekas earned Jupp Heynckes' side a confidence-boosting victory just a fortnight before they begin their Bundesliga campaign away to another newly-promoted side, Mainz.
Their opening-day opponents snatched a 1-1 draw against Spanish side Getafe. Elkin Soto netted in the last minute of the game which saw Mainz field a largely reserve team due to injuries and illness.
Meanwhile, Wolfsburg won their penultimate warm-up match before next weekend's DFB Pokal first-round game 1-0 against Bulgarian outfit FC Burgas.
Grafite earned and scored a penalty to give the Wolves victory in their training camp in Austria.
Wolfsburg face Real Mallorca on Monday before they travel to Wehen Wiesbaden on Friday night for their first serious test of the season. Seven days later, the defending Bundesliga champions kick off the 2009/10 season at home to Stuttgart.
