HSV seal Rozehnal swoop

Hamburg have completed the signing of Czech Republic defender David Rozehnal from Lazio on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old arrived in Hamburg last night and successfully passed a medical this morning before agreeing on the terms of his contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

The clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee, believed to lie somewhere around five million euros, late yesterday for the centre-back.

Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia said he was "delighted" to have completed the transfer just days before the start of the season.

"David fits the bill excellently," he said. "He can use both feet, is very quick and has international experience."

Rozehnal is now looking forward to beginning a new chapter in his career after representing Paris St Germain and Newcastle in the past.

"I am delighted that is has worked out," he said. "I am looking forward to playing for HSV, their fantastic fans and, of course, also the Bundesliga.

"I have spoken very much with David Jarolim over the last few days and he has given me a glowing report of the whole club and the environment."

Rozehnal's arrival may have come just too late for him to make his bow in tomorrow night's Europa League qualifier against Danish side Randers, although he should be ready to make his debut in the first round of the DFB-Pokal at Fortuna Dusseldorf next Monday.
