Bundesliga Weekend Preview
After their worst start to a season in 43 years Bayern Munich are looking to bounce back against defending champions Wolfsburg.
Bayern followed up two 1-1 draws with a 2-1 defeat at Mainz last weekend to leave them already five points behind the league leaders, and another defeat to high-flying Wolfsburg this weekend could see Bayern drop eight points adrift of the summit.
At present, it is former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes who is looking down on the rest of the league from his lofted perch in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.
He took over from Jurgen Klinsmann for the final five games of last season and led Bayern into the Champions League. He also knows that Bayern cannot yet be ruled out of the title chase this season.
"Bayern were never the top favourite in my eyes and I mean that honestly because Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Hamburg and Schalke are rivals who have all strengthened," he told the Express newspaper.
"But it would be wrong to write Bayern off. They will come back."
Leverkusen will try to extend his side's advantage over Bayern to eight points with a win over Bochum on Saturday while joint leaders Schalke will aim to move into double figures for points with a win against struggling Freiburg.
Hamburg are in action on Sunday when they will know how much a win over Cologne will be worth to them.
At the bottom of the table, Nurnberg will be eager to get their first win of the season at Stuttgart while Hoffenheim will try to get their season on track at the fourth time of asking in Hannover.
Eintracht Frankfurt are one of only five sides yet to lose a game this season and Borussia Dortmund will be the next opponents to test their infallibility.
Finally, Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen clash on Sunday after both being involved in decisive Europa League qualifying matches tonight.
