Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg preview
New Bayern Munich signing Arjen Robben could be handed a swift debut in their clash with Wolfsburg.
The Dutch winger was given the number 10 shirt last worn at Bayern by his compatriot Roy Makaay after he passed a medical and signed a four-year contract in Munich.
After a 2-1 defeat to Mainz last weekend ensured the worst start to a Bundesliga season in 43 years, Bayern coach Louis van Gaal admitted he is happy to have another option in his squad.
"I am very happy to have another creative player," said the Bayern coach. "He is an explosive player."
Van Gaal may not get to employ his first-choice system just yet, however, since Franck Ribery is still not ready for a full 90 minutes.
Robben has been earmarked to start on the right wing with Ribery playing on the left and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the centre, but Bayern fans may have to wait a while to see that trio in action together.
"Franck has trained very well and, on some days, he has trained twice," said Van Gaal.
"Maybe he is fit for 20-30 minutes, or maybe more."
Robben, on the other hand, is fit and ready for 90 minutes, according to the Bayern coach.
"He is in a good condition so it is possible (that he plays)," he revealed.
"I will first have a word with him."
Wolfsburg arrive in Munich on the back of their first home defeat in their last 17 games last weekend, although they still lead Bayern by five points in the current table.
But despite last Sunday's 4-2 defeat to Hamburg - or perhaps even because of it - they are still confident of moving eight points clear of Bayern.
"Bayern have a top team, but we do too," said coach Armin Veh.
"Fundamentally we want to be successful wherever we play, and therefore we also want to win this game."
Veh is without his captain Josue, who needs surgery on a knee injury. Jonathan Santana should take his place in the starting XI.
