Schalke vs Wolfsburg Preview
Schalke manager Felix Magath insists he has no regrets about leaving title-winning Wolfsburg for the Royal Blues.
And the veteran manager feels he has made the right choice even if it has recently emerged they are in serious financial danger.
Magath made up his mind to leave the Wolves midway through last season, before their stunning rise from ninth in the table to win their first Bundesliga title.
He moved to a club which did not even qualify for Europe last season and, ahead of tomorrow night's meeting with his former employers at the Arena AufSchalke, he affirmed that he made the right choice.
"Nobody forced me to come to the Royal Blues and I see this as an exciting challenge, both for Schalke and for me," he told the club's website.
"I am actually happy to have this challenge and am convinced that we will get the situation under control in the coming months."
Schalke really need to qualify for Europe next season to be able to put some more black on the balance sheet and erase the red and, although Magath insists it will take several years before they will be able to contend for silverware, he said the very same thing when he arrived in Wolfsburg.
Two years later, he was celebrating a memorable maiden title.
"The fans want to see results and we will work over the coming months to create a basis for us to play successful football here," he added.
"And in a few months, the public will see that we have done something here."
Magath has the advantage of knowing his opponents practically from top to bottom.
"It is almost the same team as last season," he said.
"And I know about the very few new arrivals also."
Magath is likely to choose the same starting XI for this match as he had in the 2-1 win at Cologne last weekend, although Kevin Kuranyi is on standby to replace Levan Kenia, who has had an illness this week.
Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh may use the system which was successful against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek with Obafemi Martins, Edin Dzeko and Grafite heading a 4-3-3 formation.
