Stuttgart vs Cologne Preview

Zvonimir Soldo is approaching a turning point in his coaching career as he takes his side to Stuttgart searching for their first win.

The Cologne coach is under pressure with four defeats from the first five games this season and, even though a crisis meeting yesterday did not result in his dismissal, there can be no doubt he is working on borrowed time.

"We are worried about the developments, but we are not getting too concerned," said board member Dr Rolf Martin Schmitz, who was at yesterday's meeting.

"There is no deadline for the coach. In fact, we have spoken out in his favour."

Soldo has been proactive this week, calling the club's bosses together with five members of the squad for a discussion of the crisis on Wednesday.

"It is important that we deal with the situation," he told the Express newspaper.

"This was just a simple exchange of opinion."

While those talks were under way, Stuttgart were making their debut in the Champions League this season in a 1-1 draw with Rangers.

The last time Stuttgart shone on a European stage, Soldo was their captain, making Saturday an even more emotional return for the Cologne coach.

"It would be fantastic if we could turn the corner there," said the 41-year-old.

Soldo will make just one change to the side which lost to Schalke on Sunday with Sebastian Freis replacing the injured Adil Chihi.

Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel should stick with the same players who lost to Hamburg last weekend as the Swabians search for only their second win of the season.
