Bayer Leverkusen vs Werder Bremen Preview

Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling is chasing a Bundesliga record of scoring in each of the first six games of the season.

The Germany international has been one of the secrets to Leverkusen's success this season and their coach Jupp Heynckes is delighted with his progress.

"He has improved his game, yes," he said. "I was a striker myself and I know what it takes.

"The important thing is that you can hold the ball up front for the others to support you.

"Stefan has learned that and when things are going well in the whole team, then you also score goals, which is the cherry on top for a striker."

Heynckes has compared Kiessling to another striker who will be on the field at the BayArena tomorrow evening, Bremen's Claudio Pizarro, who his defence will be keeping a particularly careful eye on.

"Claudio Pizarro has always been one of the best at this," he continued.

"Pizarro is a good example to Stefan. He can score a goal out of nothing, which makes him always very dangerous."

Pizarro has been assisted this season by Germany international Mesut Ozil, but he is a doubt for tomorrow due to injury.

Aaron Hunt took his place in Bremen's 3-2 win over Madeira in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday and Heynckes knows that Bremen will not necessarily be weaker than usual if Ozil were to miss out once again.

"Ozil is a very creative player, a good lad and I really like him a lot, but it has always been one of Werder Bremen's biggest strengths in being able to compensate such losses," said the Leverkusen coach.

Renato Augusto will be given a late fitness test with Heynckes perhaps having to replace one of his most important players as well.

Apart from Ozil, Bremen arrive with a fully fit squad and no other changes are expected to be made by their coach Thomas Schaaf.
