Bundesliga Sunday Review

Hamburg and Leverkusen stayed in the top two spots in the Bundesliga despite being held to draws by Frankfurt and Werder Bremen.

High-flying Hamburg and Eintracht both maintained their unbeaten starts to the new term with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Waldstadion.

Bruno Labbadia's table-topping HSV side went ahead in the eighth minute through a Ze Roberto header but the hosts were on level terms after 31 minutes thanks to a Marco Russ volley.

Leverkusen, meanwhile, managed only a goalless draw at home to Werder Bremen.

Stefan Kiessling was seeking to set a new league record of scoring in each of the first six Bundesliga matches, but he was denied that achievement by the offside flag early in the second half of a tight game.

Elsewhere, bottom club Hertha Berlin's miserable start to the season continued with a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of promoted Freiburg.

Ivica Banovic started and finished the scoring for the visitors, with Cedric Makiadi and Mohammadou Idrissou also on target to keep the capital club rooted to the foot of the standings.
