Schaaf: "Take things game by game"
Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf has said his side must not get carried away despite being at the top of the Bundesliga.
Bremen have not now lost since the opening day of the season, going 18 games unbeaten since then. Their most recent victory was a 6-0 annhilation of Freiburg.
However, although Schaaf savoured his side's "delightful" victory at the Dreisam Stadion, he was keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
"We still have a very tough schedule of fixtures up to Christmas," he said.
"Today's game was super, but we have to take things game by game.
"We cannot take anything out of this 6-0 into our next game against Wolfsburg, the defending champions, but being up there does give us self-confidence."
Few would have expected Bremen to move to the summit yesterday since they needed to make up four goals on leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who travel to Bayern Munich today.
And being top of the table, even if only for a few hours, does not mean too much to Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs.
He said: "The weekend is not over yet, but being top is not an issue for us.
"We had to keep in touch at the top after our draw with Dortmund and we have managed that.
"To have been able to improve our goal difference at the same time is an added bonus that we gladly accept."
