Hannover vs B Munich Preview
The widow of Robert Enke has written a letter expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy after her husband's death.
Hannover play their first match at their Niedersachsen Stadion since Enke's funeral there a fortnight ago when they take on Bayern Munich tomorrow.
Writing in the matchday programme, Teresa Enke thanked the public for their emotional response to tragedy.
"During the hard hours of mourning, I was able to experience once again how much sympathy, recognition and respect Robert had earned," she wrote.
"Words actually fail me to describe the enormous sympathy shown following the death of my husband.
"I had often wished in recent days that he had known about how much you valued him.
"Maybe knowing that would have even been enough to convince him to go public (with his illness) and be admitted to a clinic."
Enke, who won six caps for Germany, committed suicide on November 10 after battling with depression and tomorrow's game is certain to be an emotional occasion.
Hannover have been given permission to wear a black number one on the front of their shirts for the remainder of the season in memory of the keeper, while black armbands will also be worn and a minute's silence will be held before the clash.
On the field, the Reds will be looking for a victory against the Bavarian giants.
"Of course it is something special to play against the record champions," said coach Andreas Bergmann, who insists his side will be able to put the emotions to one side and concentrate on the match.
"We are going to be courageous and fight for the points," he added.
The game is Bayern's first since their general manager of the last 30 years, Uli Hoeness, became club president.
Hoeness was last night elected to the role he will fill for at least the next three years, leaving coach Louis van Gaal alone on the bench.
Van Gaal confirmed Miroslav Klose will play no part in the game.
"He does not feel well and he will not play, nor will he sit on the bench," he said.
Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have also not made the trip, and nor has Luca Toni, whose days at the Bavarian club appear numbered after Van Gaal said he "has a problem" with the Italian.
