Borussia M'gladbach 1-0 Schalke

Marco Reus' early goal was enough as Borussia Monchengladbach continued their good run with a tough home victory over Schalke.

Reus scored in the fifth minute and Gladbach held onto their slim advantage as keeper Logan Bailly produced an excellent display.

That saw their undefeated sequence extend into a fifth game - for the first time since 2005 - and the victory took them to 18 points - six clear of the relegation zone.

Felix Magath's Schalke came into the game with the second-best away record in the league but remain on 25 points in third place following their first loss on their travels this season.

The hosts came into the game not having scored at home in 343 minutes of football, but did not waste any time in ending that miserable stretch.

Dante sent a long ball from deep in his own half to Juan Arango and the Venezuelan collected the ball and teed up Reus, who finished first time through the legs of Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer.

Bailly made a fine save after 28 minutes after Kevin Kuranyi's shot took a deflection off Dante.

Schalke assistant coach Sepp Eichkorn was sent to the stands a minute before the break.

And Neuer kept his side in the game with a superb stop from Arango's 12-yard shot five minutes after the restart.

The Germany international, however, was late coming out to meet Arango's cross just before the hour mark, only for Roel Brouwers to head just over the bar from six yards.

Bailly again was called upon to defy the visitors in the 61st minute as the Belgian got down in time to save Jefferson Farfan's deflected shot.

Schalke pushed forward in the final stages looking for the equaliser but could not find a way past Bailly - though Rafinha was just inches off target in stoppage time from 20 yards.
