Watzke: Fan behaviour "inexcusable"
Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke said the behaviour of his own club's fans was "inexcusable".
This follows yesterday's Bundesliga trip to Hoffenheim when Dortmund supporters displayed banners insulting Hoffenheim owner Dietmar Hopp and shouted verbal abuse about the multi-millionaire as their team won 2-1.
Watzke, who on the eve of the game had written an open letter appealing with the fans to show respect for the opposition, was disappointed his words had not been heeded.
"I am very proud of our young team, but I distance myself in every respect from the fans' chants," he said.
"I do not understand such insults at all. That is inexcusable."
On the pitch tempers flared after Hoffenheim midfielder Maicosuel was shown a controversial red card 10 minutes from time.
He was punished for making contact with Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller after which a goalmouth melee ensued.
Hoffenheim goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand accused Weidenfeller of playing his part in the dismissal, saying: "I think Weidenfeller should have chosen a career as an actor."
Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick did admit, though, that Dortmund were good value for their win.
"Dortmund were better in the first half and we deserved to be behind at the interval," he said
"We played better for the next half an hour and equalised, but overall Dortmund's win was not undeserved."
The second away win of the season for the Westphalians extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Hoffenheim missed the opportunity to move up to third in the table.
