Stefan Kiessling scored a hat-trick as Bayer Leverkusen thumped Stuttgart 4-0 to go three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Kiessling opened the scoring (22) and also finished proceedings with his second (59) and an 87th-minute penalty. Eren Derdiyok (37) got the other.
Bayern Munich moved up to fourth with a 3-0 win away to Hannover.
Bayern's goals came from Thomas Muller (19), Ivica Olic (47) and Mario Gomez (90) to ease the pressure on under-fire boss Louis van Gaal.
Per Mertesacker kept Werder Bremen's lengthy unbeaten record intact as his last-gasp equaliser earned them a 2-2 draw at home to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga this afternoon.
Mertesacker pounced in stoppage time to make it 21 games without defeat in all competitions for Bremen after Edin Dzeko had twice given the defending champions the lead, his second goal coming five minutes from time.
Hugo Almeida scored Bremen's first equaliser in the 62nd minute as the hosts moved to the top of the table, ahead of Bayer Leverkusen on goal difference.
Leverkusen can reclaim top spot when they take on Stuttgart tomorrow.
Schalke, Hamburg and Hoffenheim all passed up chances to move closer to the summit by failing to win.
Schalke were beaten 1-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach to remain third, two points behind the leaders.

Tim Hoogland's 86th-minute goal earned Mainz a 1-1 draw at home to Hamburg, who had gone in front through Tunay Torun after just three minutes.
The point moved Hamburg into fourth above Hoffenheim, who went down 2-1 at home to Borussia Dortmund.
Nuri Sahin's late penalty decided the contest, while Hoffenheim ended the game with 10 men.
Jakub Blaszczykowski gave Dortmund the lead after two minutes but Demba Ba equalised four minutes after the break
But Sahin converted from the spot in the 79th minute before Maicosuel was shown a red card two minutes later.
At the other end of the table, Hertha Berlin's desperate start to the season continued with a 3-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Patrick Ochs gave Eintracht the lead after 11 minutes and Maik Franz made it 2-0 with 20 minutes remaining.
Alexander Meier settled the contest with a third five minutes later before Adrian Ramos grabbed a consolation for the hosts with nine minutes left.
Elsewhere, Stefan Reisinger's early goal earned Freiburg a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Nurnberg.
