Beckenbauer not impressed with recruits

Bayern Munich's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has criticised his club's summer signings, saying none of them have managed to make the grade yet.

Bayern delved deep into their pockets last summer, spending over 70 million euros on the likes of Mario Gomez, Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Ivica Olic, Alexander Baumjohann, Danijel Pranjic, Edson Braafheid and Arjen Robben.

But the Kaiser is still waiting to see why any of them were brought in.

"The most surprising thing is that none of the new arrivals have yet hit the mark," he told Sport Bild magazine.

"That does not mean that we bought badly, but it is just not working yet.

"We are going to have to try and reach the winter break and then sit down and ask what we have to do."

Bayern have three league games to go before the turn of the year and currently lie in fourth position, six points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Furthermore, they have a make-or-break Champions League tie against Juventus next week which may well determine whether coach Louis Van Gaal still has a future at the club.
