Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 Mainz

Eintracht Frankfurt claimed a hard-fought win over 10-man Mainz in the Bundesliga.

Maik Franz put the hosts in front just before the half-hour mark and, after Mainz's Chadlj Amri has been sent off midway through the second half, Alexander Meier sealed the points in the final minute.

The win moved Eintracht to within a point of their opponents in mid-table.

Mainz created the first chance of the game, Aristide Bance going close after goalkeeper Oka Nikolov was slow off his line, before the home side began to assert their authority

Umit Korkmaz took the ball down the left and fired just wide from 25 yards before Franz put Eintracht in front in the 29th minute.

Marco Russ collected the ball from a long throw and crossed from the left wing to the far post, where Franz was on hand to score.

Mainz came close to levelling eight minutes after the restart as Andre Schurrle headed Eugen Polanski's free-kick back across goal towards Tim Hoogland, who nodded wide.

And the visitors' task go harder in the 68th minute when Amri picked up a second yellow card.

The tricky Korkmaz then made ground again down the left before shooting into the hands of Mainz goalkeeper Heinz Muller as Eintracht looked the make the most of their man advantage.

The visitors, though, were not in the mood to give up the fight and Hoogland had a header saved by Nikolov before Bance fired an effort over the top.

But their fate was sealed in the 90th minute as Patrick Ochs played in Meier, who fired home right-footed from 17 yards for Eintracht's second.
