Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Preview

Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh wants his side to finish in the top three of the Bundesliga after their Champions League exit .

Veh had previously insisted a top-five finish would be a success, but having tasted Champions League football, Veh now wants more next year.

"We have got to ensure we get back into the Champions League and do better next time," he said after a 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester United saw the Wolves slip into the UEFA Europa League.

And Veh has also set his sights on showing his side's true strength in Europe's second club competition.

"We want to show that we have learnt something and that we want to go as far as possible," he added.

But before Veh can think about Europe, he must ensure the Wolves end 2009 in a challenging position in the Bundesliga.

Although they were ninth at the turn of the year last season, and still managed to overtake all eight clubs above them to win the league, a repeat of that club record second half to a season is unlikely, which is why Veh wants to move to within touching distance of the top three in 2009.

"Dortmund is going to be a decisive game," he said ahead of tomorrow's clash with the Westphalians at the VW-Arena.

"If we win both (our remaining) games, then we will not have had a bad first half of the season.

"I think if we had all the points that we could have had, then we would be second or third now."

If the league table were based on the last eight games, then Dortmund would currently be on course for Champions League qualification themselves.

Jurgen Klopp's side have recovered from a difficult start to the season by picking up 18 points in their last eight games to jump above their hosts tomorrow in the table, but Klopp is not underestimating his side's opponents having seen their midweek performance against United.

"Anybody who saw that game will have seen what quality there is in this side," he said.

"We are facing one of the three or four best players in the league."

And they will have to do so without Markus Feulner, who has been ruled out for six weeks after tearing ankle ligaments.

Wolfsburg have shown no ill-effects of their midweek battle, but Veh has left his options open, admitting that he may make a few changes to his side to rest players.
