Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich Preview

Wolfsburg coach Lorenz-Gunther Kostner has the opportunity to beat Bayern Munich with a third club on Saturday.

Kostner surprised Bayern while in charge of Cologne and Unterhaching with both wins coming in the month of February and he is now plotting a third success over the record German champions, with the help of the fans inside the VW-Arena.

"Maybe that is a good omen," he said. "Of course I am looking forward to the game, particularly since it is against Bayern Munich.

"I am also anxious to see how the fans behave, not just towards me, but also to the team.

"We need some support and therefore I would be delighted if they would support the team like they used to do in the past and if the whole stadium gets behind Wolfsburg."

Kostner was placed in temporary charge of the club just over a week ago following the dismissal of Armin Veh and led them to a 1-1 draw at Hamburg in his first match in charge last weekend.

This will be his first home game since taking over and he wants to wipe the slate clean and start from scratch, forgetting also about the 5-1 win over Bayern from last season.

"That is not a burden," he said. "It was a great result and it will always be remembered as a great result, but that now belongs to the past.

"But we shouldn't be surprised if they are a bit more determined to put things right after that result."

Bayern coach Louis van Gaal has also dismissed that result, although he expects to meet a team with the same level of enthusiasm tomorrow, even if their home form of late has been far from satisfactory for a defending champion.

"Every team is very motivated against FC Bayern and everybody does more against Bayern than against anybody else," he said.

"That is why it is hard to win the league with Bayern. I know this from my time with Barcelona and Ajax."

Nevertheless, with seven straight league victories, Bayern are still managing to get the better of every opponent they have met recently and moving towards the aim reiterated by Van Gaal these days.

"We have got to sit at the top on the final day of the season," he said.

Obafemi Martins and Karim Ziani both returned to training for the Wolves this week, although neither will be fit to play a part tomorrow.

Van Gaal is set to name an unchanged side for the fourth consecutive game, leaving Franck Ribery on the bench once again.
