Ribery: On-field achievements key

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery says Champions League success is one of his biggest considerations in determining his future.

The Frenchman is soon due to enter into negotiations with the Bundesliga club regarding a new contract, but he insists money is not the only thing he will be thinking of when he sits down with director of sport Christian Nerlinger, president Uli Hoeness and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

He also wants assurances that Bayern can compete with the best in Europe.

Tonight's Champions League clash with Fiorentina could therefore be more important to Ribery than anything else the Bavarian club can promise him.

"Our performance in the Champions League certainly influences my decision," he told Sport Bild magazine.

"My sporting perspectives are my priority."

By booking a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, therefore, Bayern will be putting themselves into a more favourable position for the new contract negotiations, which are set to take place next month.

Ribery's contract with Bayern still has 18 months left to run, but Hoeness has already admitted that they would be forced to listen to offers for the 26-year-old in the summer if they cannot agree on an extension since he cannot run the risk of losing him for nothing 12 months later.
