Hannover keeper revels in win
Hannover goalkeeper Florian Fromlowitz said that a "huge weight" had been lifted after his side won for the first time since October.
The 2-1 win in Freiburg was the Reds' first three-point haul since Robert Enke's suicide and the emotional relief was enormous.
"This is an absolutely fantastic feeling," said Fromlowitz on the club's website.
"This is just what we needed today. A huge weight has been lifted from all of us."
Hannover had luck on their side as they climbed above a fellow relegation candidate in a true relegation battle at the Dreisam Stadion.
"We played better last week and lost," admitted defender Christian Schulz.
"It was not a good game from us today, but we have taken the points with us. That was an enormously important game for the whole club.
"At the end of the day, we have the three points and they are crucial for survival."
Freiburg coach Robin Dutt admitted his side have fallen into a "difficult situation", but added that he would not give up, even if his side slipped into the bottom three for the first time since mid-September.
"It is my task to put my foot down again, starting from tomorrow," he added.
Freiburg have the unenviable task of travelling to Bayern Munich next weekend while Hannover host Eintracht Frankfurt.
