Werder Bremen vs Bochum Preview

Werder Bremen need to get over their Europa League exit and concentrate their efforts on the Bundesliga.

Bremen shared a dramatic 4-4 draw with Valencia at the Weser Stadion on Thursday, but were beaten on the away goals rule to end their dreams of reaching the final of the competition for a second year running.

"This exit really hurts us," explained Germany international Marko Marin. "It is going to be very tough for us today and tomorrow because we are very disappointed."

Director of sport Klaus Allofs was critical of his side's display, saying his team "should not be allowed to lose against this Valencia side".

He added on the club's website: "We should have clearly decided this encounter in the first leg.

"You cannot play a 4-4 draw at this level. We can praise 50% of our performance, but the other 50% was poor."

Bremen now need to lift their heads immediately and beat Bochum tomorrow to move above northern Germany rivals Hamburg and into the top five.

But while Bochum may not be Valencia, they have relegation issues to contend with which.

"We have all understood now that we are far from being safe," said their coach Heiko Herrlich.

"We know that the situation is serious and we have some positive tension and we are fully focused on Bremen."

Bochum travel north without Mimoun Azaouagh, who broke his hand in training and will be out for a fortnight.

Milos Maric is also suspended, but Mergim Mavraj and Roman Prokoph are both back from their bans.

Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf will take a look at how his players recover from last night's ordeal before deciding which XI to send out tomorrow.
