E. Frankfurt vs Bayern Munich Preview

Eintracht Frankfurt coach Michael Skibbe believes facing Bayern Munich could be just the tonic for his side.

Frankfurt have lost their last three matches to drop out of contention for a place in Europe next season, but Skibbe thinks the motivation of playing the league leaders could spur them on to victory at the Wald Stadion.

"Bayern have been exceptional in their last four games, but if we get into the game well, then anything is possible," he said.

"We only narrowly lost the first game against them and we have got to play again like we did there."

Nevertheless, Skibbe knows that his side would be powerless to stop Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and company if they are on fire.

"If they call on their full potential, then we hardly have a chance," he said. "If they are both fit, then it is hard to play and survive against them.

"Of course we are not going to be able to prevent them from getting chances, but we can try to be competitive.

"To be able to prevail over them is purely down to luck, but we are playing in the Bundesliga to be able to measure ourselves against such sides.

"I don't see it as a punishment to play them, but rather a challenge."

Bayern were today learning who they will be facing in the quarter-finals and, eventually, the semi-finals of the Champions League, but first they have to defend their place at the top of the Bundesliga and only a win in Frankfurt would guarantee that.

Coach Louis van Gaal has more options available this weekend as Bastian Schweinsteiger returns from suspension and Halil Altintop is back after injury.

He could come up against his twin brother Hamit, who will be leading the Frankfurt attack.

Ribery remains a doubt due to a persistent ankle injury, but Robben will start.
