Hamburg vs Schalke Preview
Schalke manager Felix Magath has his sights set on winning three points against Hamburg on Sunday.
However he is not focussed on keeping his side in the race for the Bundesliga title this season.
The shrewd manager continues to ignore the issue of winning a second straight title with a different club and remains focused on achieving the one goal he had set himself at the start of the season.
"With three points, qualification for the Europa League is as good as certain," he said at the pre-match press conference.
"I would not like to and cannot talk about anything more than that."
Playing in Europe next season is crucial to the Royal Blues' existence, at least from a financial point of view, even though Magath also recognised the flip side in tomorrow's opponents.
"Hamburg have to cope with a very big strain this season," he added. "We are therefore in a better situation.
"I can see that we have an advantage as far as our condition is concerned and we have got to use this."
Hamburg's Europa League clash with Anderlecht on Thursday was already their 42nd match of the season.
Although they lost 4-3 on the night, they prevailed 5-4 on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Standard Liege.
But qualification came at a price with Dennis Aogo, Marcell Jansen and Jerome Boateng all doubts for tomorrow due to injuries.
"He (Jansen) took a knock on his foot, Dennis is still battling with a groin strain and (Jerome) has a dead leg, which are always painful," explained HSV coach Bruno Labbadia.
"We will have to wait for the final training session before we know for sure."
Magath has no such injury doubts with Heiko Westermann likely to recover from a calf strain to keep his place in the team.
