Diego close to Wolfsburg move
Diego should become a Wolfsburg player on Friday after the the club reached an agreement with Juventus over a transfer fee.
The Brazilian, who was spotted arriving for a medical in northern Germany yesterday, is due to sign a contract with the Bundesliga club as soon as his father and agent arrives in the city on Thursday.
"We have reached an agreement with Juventus over the transfer today," announced Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness at a press conference.
"This evening, his father and his assistant are due to arrive here."
Diego was given permission to talk to Wolfsburg yesterday when he was left out of the Bianconeri's squad for the second leg of their Europa League fixture with Sturm Graz.
The transfer is reported to cost the 2009 Bundesliga champions somewhere in the region of 15 to 20million euros.
He cost Juventus 25million when he arrived from Werder Bremen last summer, but he failed to make an impact in Serie A last season and was made one of the scapegoats in what turned out to be a disappointing season for the Old Lady.
However, he had looked impressive in pre-season for Juventus, starring in their Europa League wins over Shamrock Rovers, and Juve's coach Luigi Del Neri recently stated that he was keen on keeping hold of the player.
"There can be no doubts about his technique, his quality and his finesse," he said recently. "He can bring ideas to our game."
However, their director of sport Giuseppe Marotta held talks with Hoeness in Turin a few weeks ago and the Bundesliga club appear to have now upped their bid to match Juve's asking price.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder scored 38 goals in 84 games for Werder Bremen before moving to Italy.
