Kaiserslautern v Bayern Munich Preview

Martin Demichelis has once again been left out of the Bayern Munich squad by their coach Louis van Gaal.

Van Gaal has made it clear that Holger Badstuber and Daniel van Buyten are his number one defenders this season and Demichelis has not taken the snub well.

He requested not to be included in the squad at all for the Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg last weekend when he learned he would only be on the bench and the situation has not changed seven days later.

"It is the same reason as last week when we also made this decision together," explained Van Gaal.

"When somebody is dropped after six years as a first-team regular, then you cannot expect them to be 100% focused on their job.

"If he does not leave the club, then it is possible that he will still play a part in my plans. Everybody has time to mourn."

Van Gaal is therefore expected to name the same team which defeated Wolfsburg 2-1 last weekend.

The hosts should also be unchanged after a convincing 3-1 win at Cologne last weekend, but the mentality is bound to be different.

This is the biggest game on the club's calendar and the first fixture Kaiserslautern's fans would have looked for when the fixture list was compiled in July, and it is no surprise that the Betzenberg will be full to the rafters.

"The team is really looking forward to our first home game in front of our fans," said their coach Marco Kurz.

"The whole area is buzzing ahead of this game against the record German champions."

The Red Devils have also managed to squeeze a few extra fans in for tomorrow night's match by reorganising the visiting fans' section, but they were nevertheless unable to satisfy the demand of over 130,000 requests for just 49,700 tickets.
