Blaszczykowski eyes BVB starting role
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski is hoping to get cement his place in the first team over the coming weeks.
Blaszczykowski has had to settle for a reserve role for much of the season due to the impressive form of Mario Gotze, Kevin Grosskreutz and Shinji Kagawa in the three attacking-midfield roles.
However, with young star Gotze set to miss up to two months due to a hip injury, Blaszczykowski is hopeful he will get his chance to show Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp he deserves a place in the starting XI.
"Of course I am sorry Mario is so badly injured," Blaszczykowski told Bild.
"But for me, it feels great to be needed again. It really boosts my confidence."
The Polish international, affectionately known as 'Kuba' to the Dortmund fans, showed just what he is capable of last weekend when he netted twice in the 5-1 win over Hamburg, a display not gone unnoticed by Klopp.
"He's a very enjoyable footballer," Klopp said. "Kuba is back on track."
Dortmund next play Hoffenheim on Saturday.
