Freiburg hold Bremen, Cologne win

Freiburg hold Bremen, Cologne win

The Bundesliga's bottom side Freiburg twice came from behind to claim a 2-2 home draw against European contenders Werder Bremen.

Claudio Pizarro gave Bremen the lead in each half but Freiburg found a way back on each occasion, first through Cedrick Makiadi and then Jonathan Schmid in the 70th minute.

Freiburg remain at the foot of the standings despite the point, while Bremen move up to fifth after collecting their third straight draw since the winter break.

Elsewhere, substitute Odise Roshi scored shortly after coming on to give Cologne a 1-0 victory at 10-man Kaiserslautern.

Roshi struck the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute, 32 minutes after the home side had seen midfielder Ariel Borysiuk sent off on his debut.

Bayern Munich and Schalke missed the chance to go level at the top of the Bundesliga as they were held 1-1 by Hamburg and Mainz respectively.

Bayern needed a 71st-minute equaliser from former Hamburg striker Ivica Olic to earn a point which left them two points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Jacopo Sala's first Bundesliga goal put Hamburg in front in the 23rd minute as they climbed further away from the drop zone.

Third-placed Schalke also wasted the chance to go level on points with Dortmund as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Mainz.

Mainz's new signing Mohamed Zidan marked his debut with a goal as he put the away side ahead in the 15th minute, but Chinedu Obasi's first goal for the Royal Blues earned them a draw.

And it proved a very good day for defending champions Dortmund with fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach also failing to win.

Their goalless draw at Wolfsburg left them one point behind Bayern and Schalke.

Stuttgart picked up their first point of 2012 as Martin Harnik's 89th-minute equaliser earned a 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen.

The hosts twice threw away the lead in a match which saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Stefan Kiessling put Leverkusen ahead in the 11th minute, but Julian Schieber levelled 12 minutes later.

Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes restored the hosts' lead just after the break from the penalty spot, but after they lost Michal Kadlec to a red card in the 63rd minute, Harnik grabbed a point for Stuttgart.

The visitors then had Cristian Molinaro dismissed in stoppage time.

Second-bottom Augsburg came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Hoffenheim and boost their survival hopes.

Sascha Molders put the away side in front after half an hour, but Peniel Mlapa levelled before the break.

A Sejad Salihovic penalty then put Holger Stanislawski's side ahead early in the second half, but Augsburg hit back with Sebastian Langkamp levelling in the 72nd minute.

Mohamed Abdellaoui's 68th-minute goal earned Hannover a 1-0 win at Hertha Berlin, who had Sebastian Neumann sent off 15 minutes from time.
