Heynckes delight at dominant Bayern
Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes was pleased with the way his players controlled the game in Wednesday's 2-0 DFB-Pokal quarter-final win over Stuttgart.
Franck Ribery gave Bayern a 30th-minute lead when he netted Thomas Muller's cross from close range, before Mario Gomez guaranteed the Bavarian outfit a place in the last four when he scored just after halftime.
Speaking after the match, Heynckes was delighted with the way his players had dominated their opponents.
"We had a superb balance between defence and attack," Heynckes said on the club's official website. "Our attacking play was variable and very fast-paced.
"I'm very satisfied. My team controlled the match and showed they're capable of top-class football.
"We showed them [Stuttgart] who's boss right from the start, and we were a real unit."
Bayern midfielder Toni Kroos echoed his coach's sentiments, and admitted the game had also been a pleasing one for him on a personal note.
"We were outstanding," Kroos said. "We dominated the match from the first minute until the last, we shut them out, and we played very good attacking football.
"Our play was extremely flexible. That's what we want.
"It worked out really well for me as a playmaker, it played to my strengths. When we play as well as that, we all enjoy it, and it worked out extremely well.
"The team is capable of controlling matches for 90 minutes, but we actually have to go out and do it. Today [Wednesday] we succeeded."
Bayern are back in Bundesliga action on Saturday when they entertain Kaiserslautern.
