Mourinho exhudes confidence after draw

Jose Mourinho admitted that his side are "confident in our strength" to win Europe's biggest prize this season.

Mourinho's Inter have been paired alongside Werder Bremen, Panathinaikos FC and newcomers Anorthosis Famagusta FC in Group B but the former Chelsea boss expressed confidence in his side's safe progress to the second round as they bid to win Europe's biggest prize for the first time since 1965.

Mourinho said: "Looking at the teams we have to face, it's impossible to say whether it will be an easy group stage or not for us."

"Our first goal is to qualify, our second goal is to finish first in the group. We are of course very motivated and we are confident in our strength."

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf proclaimed that his side must tread their Group B fixtures with caution.

Schaaf explained: "We can reach the first knockout round from this group, but we have to be careful."

"We know Inter and Panathinaikos and we remember how difficult it was against them. Just look at Inter's squad - you can see what an attractive opponent they are."

"Even though Panathinaikos finished third in Greece, they have made some great summer signings, such as Gilberto from Arsenal [FC]."

"Famagusta are the great unknowns, but their qualification results show how dangerous they can be and we must not be naïve against them."

New Panathinaikos gaffer Henk Ten Cate admitted that the fight for second spot will take precedence for his outfit.

He said: "We have been drawn against some tough opponents. I can't predict how far we'll go, but hopefully we'll improve as the season goes on."

"We can't complain about the draw and there are other tougher groups."

"Inter are the powerhouse in our group and we will compete for second spot with Bremen and Anorthosis."

Finally, Anorthosis skipper Nikos Nikolaou declared that simply participating in Europe's premier cup competition is a bonus for the unheralded Cypriot side.

He commented: "There are no easy or tough groups in this competition. All our opponents are difficult ones but we will take part, soak up the experience and enjoy the moment."

"Maybe we can take something from our opponents, especially in Cyprus. We have to enjoy these games."
