Torres out to down United
Fernando Torres is itching to score against Manchester United, especially in the Champions League final.
“I want to score the winning goal against Manchester United in the Champions League final.” That is the bold claim put forth by Fernando Torres. And the Spanish striker is simply not just beating his chest for nothing.Torres netted the goal that helped Spain clinch the European Championship and he is feared in Europe for his incredible goal haul, which has seen him score 33 times last season. The former Atletico Madrid player endeared himself to the Reds fans by scoring a brace against Everton.
Torres now wants to score against Manchester United, Liverpool’s bitter rivals, especially he is yet to open account this season.
“Every player wants to score against their biggest rivals. It matters so much to the fans and I know it would mean even more to ours if I scored against Manchester United,” he told The Daily Mirror.
“Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance this season. But I’m hoping I’ll have an opportunity to do so at Old Trafford after Christmas, or maybe in the cup – or best of all the Champions League Final.
After tasting success with Spain in the European Championships last summer, the Madrid-born player wants to achieve more silverware at Anfield.
“Winning the Euros was my first big honour. Now I know how it feels to win something like that, it makes me even hungrier to win trophies with Liverpool,” Torres added.
“I came here for that reason and hope this season will be better than last year. I believe we can win the Premier League or the Champions League. If we did that, it would be fantastic. We have started well, so there is optimism.
“But I’d be happy with just 20 goals if we won the Premier League or Champions League.”
