Kinsmann: Season hinges on Barca tie

After Bayern's humiliating 5-1 loss at Wolfsburg, Jurgen Klinsmann demanded an improvement at Barcelona.

"To me it is vital that everyone understands what hinges on this next game: the entire season and the future of Bayern Munich," he said ahead of Bayern's visit to the Nou Camp in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Klinsmann had to avert talk of a crisis in his post match interview following the humiliating loss.

He said, "The players must know that there will be consequences. Each must account for what is at stake [against Barcelona]."

Klinsmann punished the team by forcing them to watch a repeat of the Wolfsburg defeat - their heaviest since they lost 5-1 to Schalke in 2002 - on Saturday night and then addressed them "calmly and quietly, but with a clear threat that there must sometimes be consequences for such defeats. After such a disappointment, a fury burns down inside me".

Bayern were undone by Wolfsburg's strikers Grafite and Edin Dzeko, who both scored twice. Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath, sacked by Bayern in 2007 after leading the team to consecutive domestic league and cup doubles, said: "Our aim is still to secure fifth spot."
