Champions League Preview

FC Twente are still waiting to learn if new signing Bernard Parker can play in their Champions League qualifier this Wednesday.

The South Africa striker is yet to receive his work permit and is facing a race against time to get the paperwork completed before the team head to Portugal to play Sporting Lisbon.

Ghana's Ransford Osei is also awaiting a work permit.

Sporting have a new striker of their own on board for the tie, having swooped to sign Felipe Caicedo on loan from Manchester City in midweek.

The third-round qualifiers get under way tomorrow night with four fixtures, most notably the re-match of Sparta Prague and Panathinaikos.

The two clubs met at the same stage last year, when a 2-1 win in the Czech Republic capital set Pana on their way to a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Turkish club Sivasspor will make their competition debut with a visit to Anderlecht, while FC Aktobe host Maccabi Haifa and Levski Sofia travel to FK Baku.

The rest of the big names are on show on Wednesday night.

Tony Mowbray will take charge of his first competitive match with Celtic as the Glasgow giants host Dinamo Moscow in one of the more intriguing ties.

UEFA Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk are heavy favourites at home to FCU Politehnica Timisoara of Romania, while Austria's big spenders Salzburg - who survived a second-round scare against Bohemian FC - will look to make some noise on the continental stage as they host Dinamo Zagreb.

The new format for the qualifiers, which pitches national champions against each other separately from other qualifiers, has thrown up an all-Scandinavian clash between Norwegian title winners Stabaek and their Danish counterparts FC Copenhagen, who were ruthless in dispatching Montenegrin champions FK Mogren 12-0 on aggregate in the previous round.

Greek giants Olympiacos face a testing trip into Eastern Europe to face Slovan Bratislava.

FC Levadia Tallinn produced the major shock of the second round when a last-minute goal from Vladislav Ivanov knocked out 12-time Polish champions Wisla Krakow 2-1 on aggregate, and their reward is a meeting with Debreceni VSC.

Partizan Belgrade travel to Apoel Nicosia, while Slavia Prague also start away from home as they take on FC Sheriff Tiraspol.

FC Zurich host NK Maribor and FK Ventspils welcome BATE Borisov, who made it to the group stage last season.
