Prandelli: Gilardino was wronged
Cesare Prandelli is furious that Alberto Gilardino was wrongly sent off in their 1-0 Champions League loss to Lyon.
Gilardino's marching orders comes after Prandelli had urged his players to play more aggressively earlier in the week. The Fiorentina coach might be regretting his demands after witnessing his players get carded one after another against the French giants.
"We were ordered, but a little too aggressive at times tonight," Prandelli admitted to Sky.
"Gilardino told me that he did not hit his opponent deliberately, however the referee did not agree, so we were forced to play the match with one player less until the end."
"I was very confident that this team would bring home a positive result, so I'm very sorry for everyone, as we really wanted to do well."
Gilardino's sending off has effectively ruled him out of La Viola's next Champions League clash against Liverpool, and Prandelli is now making plans for the Reds' visit.
He continued, "I hope to recover [Jose Ignacio] Castillo in time, otherwise I will have to play with [Stevan] Jovetic and [Adrian] Mutu up front."
